The Caddy with BlueMotion Technology epitomises Volkswagen’s innovative approach. A package of measures consisting of a 1.6 l TDI engine with either 55 kW* (75 bhp) or 75 kW* (102 bhp), engine start/stop system, regenerative braking, cruise control and aerodynamic optimisation lowers fuel consumption to an average of 5.1 1itres per 100 km** – without forfeiting comfort in any way. The engine start/stop system plays a large part in helping you to drive economically. At a red light, it switches off the idling engine automatically and turns it on again as soon as the journey is continued. An even speed also helps to save fuel. From 30 km/h upwards the cruise control keeps your chosen speed at a constant level – allowing you to take your foot of the accelerator.

With regenerative braking no energy is wasted.


Regenerative braking guarantees efficient utilisation of energy. This is how it works: if the driver takes his foot off the accelerator or applies the brake, the alternator’s voltage is boosted and used to recharge the car battery. When accelerating or driving at a constant speed, the battery – always optimally charged – enables the alternator’s voltage to be reduced or even allows the alternator to be switched off completely to reduce engine load and improve fuel economy.
