The TDI engine – delivers power and fuel economy.

The Amarok shows character on the outside – and has plenty of personality under the bonnet: a powerful 2.0 l BiTDI engine with innovative common rail technology. The free-revving, smooth running engine with rear-wheel drive and comfort leaf springs lets you enjoy comfort on a par with that of a passenger car on town trips or journeys on the motorway. Those who often have to drive on dirt tracks can, as an option, combine comfort leaf springs with permanent 4MOTION all-wheel drive. The combination of selectable all-wheel drive and heavy-duty leaf springs equips the Amarok for off-road driving. No wonder that the Volkswagen Race Touareg trusts in the same BiTurbo engine technology for the Dakar Rally, the toughest rally in the world.

6-speed manual gearbox: robust, reliable and durable.

The 6-speed manual gearbox on the Amarok is planned for high loads and has optimum gear ratios, short shift travel and smooth gear changing. 6th gear is designed as an economy gear (top speed in 5th gear; engine speed is lowered in 6th gear without lowering vehicle speed). This saves fuel and reduces CO2 emissions.

Powerful and efficient – the TDI engine:


  • BiTDI engine with four cylinders, 2.0 litres cubic capacity, 120 kW and torque of 400 Nm
  • the latest generation common rail technology: the best possible utilisation of fuel injected into the cylinders
  • low fuel consumption: the Amarok with rear-wheel drive requires an average of only 7.6 litres per 100 km
  • low CO2 emissions
  • engine complies with Euro 5 exhaust emission standard
  • long replacement intervals for toothed belt
  • even development of power
  • smooth running on a par with that of a passenger car
  • the high torque attained makes it possible to drive economically at low engine speeds
Fuel consumption/CO2 emissions.
Fuel tank capacity approx. 80 litres.

The fuel consumption and emission figures have been determined in accordance with measuring method stipulated (the version of EC regulation 715/2007 which is currently valid). Note in accordance with the version of directive 1999/94/EG which is currently valid: the figures do not refer to a particular vehicle and do not constitute part of the offer but are purely for comparison purposes between the various types of vehicle. In addition to the fuel efficiency of a car, driving behaviour as well as other non-technical factors play a role in determining a car’s fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. CO2 is the main greenhouse gas responsible for global warming. A guide on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions which contains data for all new passenger car models is available free of charge at every point of sale in the European Union and, for prospective buyers in Germany, at DAT Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH, Hellmuth-Hirth-Strasse 1, 73760 Ostfildern.
